Bertram Arthur Jenkins was born on June 14, 1946, to the late William Arthur Jenkins and Lillie Rucker Jenkins in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He departed this life on Wednesday, August 09, 2017 in Hampton, Va.
He was a life-long resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee until his health brought him to Hampton, Va to reside with his sister, Willodene Jenkins Scott. He was educated in the Chattanooga Public School System and graduated from Morehouse College. He retired from the Chattanooga Public School System.
He was a dedicated member of the Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church of Chattanooga, where he served in the Usher Ministry and Trustee Ministry. He was also active in the community and participated in the Chattanooga Choral Society for the Preservation of African-American Song, Additionally, he was a member of the Kappa Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Arthur Jenkins and Lillie Rucker Jenkins.
He leaves to cherish his memory a sister, Willodene J. Scott of Hampton; nephew Evan A. Scott (Kimberly) of Fort Collins, Colorado and niece Erika D. Scott of Hampton, Virginia; grand nephew Brandon A. Scott of Hampton, Virginia and grand nieces Maya J. Scott and Delia D. Scott of Fort Collins, Colorado; aunts Mrs. Mary B. Tull and Mrs.Ethel Jenkins of Chattanooga, Tennessee and cousins Ruby Frances Jenkins, Michael Allen (Charleen), Vikki Allen, Valeria Allen, Cheryl Allen and Jennifer Allen Gore (Charles), Ramona Rucker Carter, Vanessa Rucker Johnson (Warren), Hezekiah Rucker Jr. (Charlene), Melva Dawn Rucker Jackson (Gary) and a host of other relatives and friends.
Interment will be in Hampton, VA, Tuesday, August 15, 2017, in the Hampton Memorial Gardens.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at the Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN. |
