Joseph Welton White Sr. was born on May 3, 1945 in Surry County, Virginia to the late William and Justine Twine (White).  He departed his life on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Sentara Careplex Hospital in Hampton, Virginia.

He attended school within the Surry County School District. He started his career as a chef at the Chamberlin Hotel in Hampton, Virginia. It was there where he found his love for the culinary arts.  After years of working as a chef at other food establishments, he became a dedicated employee of the Virginia ABC Stores and retired after 30 years of service.

Joseph was a member of First Baptist Church of Hampton, where he served on the Senior Usher Ministry before his health prevented him from attending.

Joseph had an avid interest in sports. Football and basketball were his favorites.  When he wasn’t cheering for his favorite team, he could be found cooking delicious food in his kitchen. He truly loved cooking for his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Peggy Dorsey: and his son, Joseph Welton White Jr.  He is survived by wife, Sherray White (Franklin) of Hampton, Virginia; his two brothers, William (Jeannette) Twine, and Robert (Maggie) Twine; two sisters, Emily (Bill) Wiggins and JoAnn Twine-Harrell; two granddaughters, Morgan and Reagan White; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Franklin and Annette Daughtery; many nieces; nephews; cousin; and friends.
