Lillian Orene Davis was born on March 31, 1921 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of six children born to the union of Stephen A. Davis and Emma A. Simmons Davis. Her parents, Dejenny, Cleophus, Clemmie, Pearl and LeoDora, all preceded her in death.
Lillian professed a love for Christ at an early age and has been a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church for many years.
Lillian was educated in the Okmulgee Public Schools and graduated from Dunbar High School. She received her B.A. degree in education from Langston University in Lawton, Oklahoma in June of 1950.
In November of 1941 Lillian met and married the love of her life, Charles McClelland and to this union one child James Edward McClelland was born. She later remarried Robert Harris in the early 1960's.
Lillian was a committed worker at the United States Army Aviation Command and worked there for twenty years until her retirement.
She was a kind, generous and loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was feisty and down to earth. She enjoyed reading, traveling, playing cards and truly enjoyed the company of her grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving son ~ James Edward McClelland; two grandsons ~ Elhajj McClelland (Dianna) and Khalil Baaqi; one grand-daughter ~ Jala McClelland; one great grandson ~ James Daniel; three great granddaughters ~ Christine Naomi, Devin, and Jordan; two God sons ~ Gregory A. Scott of East St. Louis and Gerald Martin of Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. |
